The organization exists to:

• Support individuals recovering from addiction, trauma, PTSD, and other life challenges through beekeeping education, mentorship, workforce development, and community support. 

• Promote the conservation of honeybees through humane rescue, relocation, rehabilitation, and responsible beekeeping practices. 

• Conduct educational bee removals and relocations as opportunities for public education, volunteer training, and hands-on instruction in ethical beekeeping. 

• Provide educational programs, workshops, apiary experiences, and outreach that increase public understanding of pollinators, environmental stewardship, and sustainable beekeeping. 

• Foster responsibility, confidence, resilience, practical job skills, and connection to nature through structured beekeeping experiences. 

• Receive grants, donations, and charitable contributions to support these purposes. 

 

Article III – Membership

The corporation shall have no voting members. Governance shall be vested in the Board of Directors.

 

Article IV – Board of Directors

• Minimum of three directors. 

• Directors serve two-year terms. 

• Directors may be re-elected. 

• The Board oversees finances, policies, programs, and strategic planning. 

 

Article V – Officers

The officers shall include:

• President 

• Vice President 

• Secretary 

• Treasurer 

The Board may combine the offices of Secretary and Treasurer if permitted by law.

 

Article VI – Meetings

• Annual meeting each year. 

• Regular Board meetings at least quarterly. 

• Special meetings may be called by the President or a majority of the Board. 

 

Article VII – Committees

The Board may establish committees as needed to carry out the organization's mission.

 

Article VIII – Conflict of Interest

All directors and officers shall disclose potential conflicts of interest and follow the organization's Conflict of Interest Policy.

 

Article IX – Financial Policies

• Funds shall be used solely to advance the charitable mission. 

• The organization shall maintain accurate financial records. 

• An annual budget shall be approved by the Board. 

• No part of the organization's earnings shall benefit private individuals except for reasonable compensation for services rendered. 

 

Article X – Indemnification

To the fullest extent permitted by New Mexico law, the corporation shall indemnify its directors, officers, employees, and volunteers acting in good faith.

 

Article XI – Amendments

These bylaws may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the Board of Directors.

 

Article XII – Dissolution

Upon dissolution, all remaining assets shall be distributed to one or more organizations qualifying under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and consistent with the charitable purposes of Bee Hope Honey.

IRS Required Language

• No substantial part of the organization's activities shall consist of lobbying. 

• The organization shall not participate or intervene in any political campaign on behalf of or in opposition to any candidate for public office. 

• The organization shall operate exclusively for charitable and educational purposes under Section 501(c)(3). 

 

Article XIII – Program Activities

To accomplish its charitable and educational purposes, Bee Hope Honey may engage in activities including, but not limited to:

• Honeybee Rescue and Conservation – Conducting the humane rescue, removal, relocation, rehabilitation, and preservation of honeybee colonies whenever practical, promoting pollinator conservation and responsible beekeeping practices. 

• Educational Bee Removal Services – Using bee rescue and relocation projects as opportunities to educate homeowners, volunteers, students, and the public about honeybee biology, colony behavior, pollinator conservation, and ethical bee removal practices. 

• Beekeeping Education and Mentorship – Providing classes, workshops, mentoring, apprenticeships, and hands-on instruction for new and experienced beekeepers to promote responsible hive management and sustainable beekeeping. 

• Recovery and Workforce Development – Offering structured beekeeping experiences, mentorship, volunteer opportunities, and vocational training that foster responsibility, confidence, practical job skills, teamwork, and personal growth for individuals recovering from addiction, trauma, PTSD, and other life challenges. 

• Community Education and Outreach – Conducting apiary tours, honey tastings, school presentations, community events, demonstrations, and educational programs that increase public awareness of honeybees, pollinators, environmental stewardship, and sustainable agriculture. 

• Research and Environmental Stewardship – Supporting activities that improve honeybee health, encourage habitat restoration, expand forage opportunities for pollinators, and advance knowledge of responsible beekeeping practices. 

• Mission-Supporting Revenue Activities – Producing, marketing, and selling honey, beeswax products, educational materials, beekeeping equipment, and other mission-related products or services. The organization may also charge reasonable fees for educational programs, bee rescue and relocation services, apiary tours, consulting, and related activities that further its charitable and educational purposes. All net proceeds shall be used exclusively to support and expand the organization's exempt mission. 

• Other Charitable Activities – Engaging in any additional charitable or educational activities approved by the Board of Directors that further the purposes of Bee Hope Honey and are consistent with its tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
